Langlais a Notre-Dame de Paris

A luminous gathering of musicians performs works of Jean Langlais at Notre Dame, Paris.

The centerpiece of this recording is Langlais himself performing his Offrande à une âme, Op. 206 [Offering to a soul] in memory of his first wife, Jeannette. With this very long work in two movements, Toward the Light and In the Light, Langlais offers an intimate prayer with two themes: the soul’s ascension and eternal rest. This recording is Langlais’ only performance of this work.

Performers:
Pierre Cochereau and Georges Bessonnet (tracks 1 thru 5)
